My Story

Hi, I'm Alicia Anka.

Finding yoga was the beginning to finding myself. Born into a family of five kids, with a larger-than-life father, I often felt like I was living in the shadows, unable to be seen or to or shine on my own.

Ever since I was young, I have asked myself, what is my purpose? I knew that I wanted to serve people, I just wasn’t sure of how. My work life has always revolved around working with children (teacher), writing (creative and content writer) and health and wellness. In my twenties, I started taking yoga classes to ease my chronic back pain. I soon realized that there was so much more to the practice than the physical benefits. Yoga helped me connect with my inner light and to shine in my own right. Today, it informs the choices I make and the way I live, as my practice and teaching continuously evolve.

Over the years, I have had a steady practice of many different types of yoga including: Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow and Hatha Yoga. I am a Yoga Alliance member and certified to teach Sivananda Yoga, alignment-based Vinyasa Flow Yoga,  Yin Yoga and Kids Yoga.

To me, teaching offers a sense of community and keeps me connected with others as well as myself. In my yoga classes, I use a combination of everything I have learned throughout my own journey to help students get in touch with their bodies as well as their hearts. I like smart, theme-based classes that combine alignment, breath awareness, fluid movement and stillness so that students walk away having had a deep and meaningful internal experience.

As a mother of 2 and world traveller at heart, my passions to expand as a teacher and as a human being also include: writing, travel, self-development, spiritual studies, spending time in nature and being as physically active as I can. Finding balance begins with my own life, so that I can share my discoveries with others. That exchange brings me deep joy.

Namaste
